At long last the holiday season is here. Let us all get up and celebrate the holidays.
Consider this my holiday special, without John Denver singing from his “Rocky Mountain Christmas” album.
Point #1: Holiday shopping is crazy
Shopping during the holiday season is always crazy and out of hand. It can happen when shopping for gifts, or even groceries.
Recently, a Wal-Mart worker was trampled to death opening up the store on Black Friday in Long Island, N.Y.
The consumer needs to have better judgment in these situations. Be careful when you’re shopping. Shop online if needed.
Point #2: The season is here earlier and earlier every year
Have you ever walked in to a retail store the day after Halloween only to see the Christmas trees on display?
I’ve seen light displays go up before Halloween. I understand not wanting to put up the displays when it’s cold and snowy (especially now), but you have to draw the line and worry about the holidays in November.
Point #3: Speaking of the weather
I don’t remember the weather being this cold this early in December. Do you?
Point #4: It’s the College Football bowl season
Yes it is bowl season. We get to see two teams from two different conferences go at it for some trophy.
There is the usuals like the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl.
Why haven’t they developed the Toilet Bowl yet? The two worst teams in Division 1-A (or Football Bowl Subdivision) go head to head. The winner can get a plunger.
Point #5: How does Santa Claus not have diabetes?
The man spends his time eating nothing but cookies with some milk.
Plus, he’s not exactly running on treadmills or spending 60 minutes a day on his Bowflex or taking Pilates classes. So anything is possible.
Point #6: All Christmas movies unfold the same way
I have a hard time sitting and watching Christmas movies.
They’re always about finding love, or returning home to see family.
Originality is lacking in the holiday movie category. This needs to be fixed.
Point #7: My favorite holiday movie
I do like some holiday movies. I love “A Christmas Story,” “It’s A Wonderful Life” and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
However, my favorite holiday movie has to be “Die Hard.” You can’t beat Bruce Willis and Hans Gruber battling it out during Christmas.
Point #8: “A Fesitvus for the rest of us”
Make sure you get your aluminum poles out.
Somewhere right now, Frank Costanza is smiling, as the Seinfeld tradition lives on.
Point #9: Remember what this season is all about
Take this break to spend time with your family and friends. After all, this is what the season is about.
So have a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, a Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Boxing Day, Happy Festivus and finally, Happy New Year.
